Top of the Tables

6/16/2009
When residents of Allen and Gulliver Court in Wimborne tabled an
idea for funding, their landlord East Dorset Housing Association
(EDHA) were happy to oblige.
Tenants were in desperate need of some new furniture for their
popular craft group that meets in the busy activities room. They
successfully applied to EDHA's Community Fund and now boast brand
new tables at the sheltered housing scheme in Wimborne.
But it's not just the craft group members who are benefitting -
the tables have so far been used for a range of functions and
events. Val Sims, a resident at Allen & Gulliver Court said:
"The tables have been a life saver, they are used every day. There
isn't one group that doesn't use the tables: they are far more
successful and useful than we imagined them to be.
EDHA resident involvement officer Janette Whittley said: "We are
delighted to have donated £870 to the residents and it's great the
tables are being put to good use. They have been used as dining
tables on St George's Day when fish and chips and strawberries were
served and for Easter bonnet making.
"Residents also use them for things such as bingo, beetle drives
and coffee mornings. They even turned them into May poles
recently for the May Day celebrations."
She added: "The EDHA Community Fund is there to help and this is
exactly the sort of thing it was set up for. It's nice to know that
we have helped bring extra pleasure to so many."
