Anti-Social Behaviour

Your tenancy agreement says that you must be considerate towards your neighbours and not cause any nuisance, disturbance or antisocial behaviour (ASB).  This includes shouting, swearing and abusive language; slamming doors; loud music; and any other inconsiderate behaviour.  This sort of behaviour disturbs other people, and we take seriously all reports of nuisance and antisocial behaviour we receive.

If we identify you as causing nuisance or ASB, we will take whatever action is necessary against you, including legal action in the courts.

This could mean you have to pay heavy legal costs, are evicted from your home and get a criminal record.

Our Approach To Anti-Social Behaviour

We want to make our neighbourhoods, properties and estates peaceful and secure places to live.

We will do this by:

  • Working with residents and other agencies to stop antisocial behaviour of any kind
  • Responding to complaints within set timescales and in an efficient, sensitive and consistent way
  • Offering support to the complainant and taking action against those responsible
  • Encouraging residents to solve their differences themselves, wherever possible

What is Anti-Social Behaviour?

The terms 'nuisance' and antisocial behaviour' cover a range of actions.  They commonly include disagreement between neighbours; harassment; nuisance; and domestic violence.

Disagreements between neighbours usually involve only two sides and arise accidentally or because of a clash of lifestyles, age differences and misunderstandings.

Examples of ASB include:

  • Nuisance Neighbours
  • Yobbish behaviour, with intimidating groups taking over public spaces
  • Vandalism, graffiti and fly-posting
  • Selling and buying drugs on the street
  • Dumping rubbish and littering
  • Abandoning cars
  • Begging
  • Antisocial drinking
  • Misuse of fireworks
  • Reckless driving of mini-motorbikes

The Crime and Disorder Act 1988 describes antisocial behaviour as acting in a way that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more people who are not from the complainant's household.
